British painter (1758–1810)

John HoppnerRA (4 April 1758 – 23 January 1810^[1]) was an English portrait painter, overmuch influenced by Reynolds, who brought about fame as a colourist.

Early life

Hoppner was born in Whitechapel, London, the son of Germanic parents – his mother was one of the German followers at the royal palace.^[2]King Martyr showed a fatherly interest attend to patronage of the young lad that gave rise to ballyhoo, quite unfounded,^[2] that he hawthorn have been his illegitimate spoil.

Hoppner first exhibited at the Monarchical Academy in 1780.

His original love was for landscape, on the other hand necessity obliged him to circle to the more lucrative skill of portrait painting. At before successful, he had throughout urbanity the most fashionable and moneyed sitters, and was the large rival to the growing care of Thomas Lawrence. He infrequently attempted ideal subjects, though on the rocks Sleeping Venus, Belisarius, Jupiter extract Io, a Bacchante and Cupid and Psyche are recorded middle his works.

The Prince receive Wales visited him especially commonly, and many of his reward portraits were hung in rendering state apartments at St James's Palace, notably those of decency prince himself, the Duke present-day Duchess of York, Lord Rodney and Lord Nelson. Death

In his later geezerhood Hoppner suffered from a continuing disease of the liver.

He died on 23 Jan 1810.^[2]
