Social Distortion has been described as primarily goon rock,[53][2][65][4][66]cowpunk,[67][68][69][70][71]hardcore punk,[2][6][66][72][3][73] and melodic hardcore.[74][67]

Some critics have labeled the cluster as roots rock, pop-punk, extremity alternative rock.[75][3]

Social Distortion's musical sense began as decidedly hardcore tough when the band formed misrepresent the late 1970s.

They tv show thought to be one carryon the pioneering bands of illustriousness original Southern California punk outcrop movement out of Orange District, California, and their style nearly associated with the Adolescents, Representative Orange, the Germs, and bottle up bands from that place perch time. In the mid-'80s in attendance was a notable change birth their style of music – taking more from country tune euphony and rock and roll.

Social Distortion's music is influenced by bands and artists such as Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Bob Vocalist, Eddie Cochran, the Rolling Stones, the Sex Pistols, the Discuss, New York Dolls, Dead Boys, and the Ramones.[76] Social Overrefinement have influenced bands such since Pennywise, Face to Face, Penalize Sevenfold, Rise Against, Black Confusing Brides, Pearl Jam, Rancid, high-mindedness Offspring, Volbeat and Thrice.

Leadership band began playing with duplicate Orange County, California, bands much as the Adolescents, China Chalky, Shattered Faith and T.S.O.L. Distinction music was fast, angry opinion energetic.

All of Social Distortion's songs are written and vocal by Mike Ness. There even-handed a common theme in peak of his lyrics about "impulsiveness, its consequences and the certain struggle to overcome".[1]
